Balmainopolis (the “app”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a game operated by Local Darlings, a team brought to you by Coalfacer Pty Ltd, ABN 80 163 952 289. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information when you use the Balmainopolis app, website and related services.

We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Account and game information: details you provide when you create or join a game, such as your name or nickname, team details, and contact details (email and mobile phone number).

Location information: because Balmainopolis is played in the real world, we collect precise GPS location data from your team captain's device while you are playing in order to track your progress, register check-ins at landmarks, and run the game. We collect location data only while the app is in use for the game. Other team mates can use the app to observe status in the game (but not transact with the game's mechanics).

Gameplay information: information about how you play, such as check-ins, assets you hold, transactions with The Bank of Balmain, and your progress through the game.

Technical information: information about your device and app usage, such as device type, operating system, app version, and diagnostic or crash data.

Communications: information you provide if you contact us for support or feedback.

Integrated apps: we make it easy for you to share your game content via instagram. If you choose to connect your instagram account, we will offer you a simple way to post your content to instagram.

We use your personal information to operate and run the game, including tracking your location and check-ins; to create and manage your account and team; to provide support and respond to your enquiries; to improve and maintain the app; to keep the game fair and secure; and to comply with our legal obligations.

We will only use your location data for the purposes of running the game and the features you engage with. We do not sell your personal information.

We use your location in the game to determine which challenges are within range of where you are (and your game's chosen difficulty level

Your device will ask for your permission before the app accesses your location. You can withdraw this permission at any time through your device settings, but please note that the app will not function as a game without location access.

We may share limited information with other players in your game where it is part of gameplay (for example, which team owns an asset). We may also disclose information to service providers who help us operate the app (such as hosting, analytics and mapping providers), and where required or authorised by law.

Some of our service providers may store or process data outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure that service providers have policies that are generally accepted by businesses handling ths sort of information.

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

We retain your personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law, after which we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

Balmainopolis may be enjoyed by younger players as part of a team. Where players are under 18, we expect a parent or guardian to be involved and to consent to their participation and the collection of their information, including location data. The game involves moving through the neighbourhood. A responsible adult should be responsible for making sure the team moves safely through the parks and streets and creates photos and content that are consistent with your own boundaries.

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first and we will try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
